Black Duck Binary Analysis Installation Guide

Version
2026.9.0

Once you have a running instance of your Black Duck Binary Analysis virtual appliance, you will have to install the license that you received from Black Duck. You can install the license through a web browser, or alternatively you can use the command line.

Managing Licenses through a Web Browser

When you first access your Black Duck Binary Analysis virtual appliance through a web browser, the application will ask you to provision a license.

Figure 1. Running the Black Duck Binary Analysis virtual appliance for the first time
  1. If you don't have a license yet, download a license from Arena

    There are two associated files:

    • provisioning-COMPANY-DATE_VERSION.install: This is the installable license provisioning file.
    • password.txt: The password for the licensing admin account
  2. After downloading, use the browse to the location of the license file.
  3. Select Upload and update.

Once your license is successfully installed, you will be directed to the login page.

You can also follow these steps to update your license through a web browser.

Managing Licenses from the Command Line

You can install and update licenses within a command line environment. The appliance provides endpoints for these operations.

Examples are listed below. In place of provisioning-COMPANY-DATE_VERSION.install, you would enter the correct name of the license provisioning file that you received from Black Duck. Likewise, in place of http://192.168.x.x, you would enter the root IP address or domain name that points to your virtual machine instance.

Installing Licenses from the Command Line

You can install the license file from the command line by sending a cURL request to the api/license endpoint, as depicted below:

$ curl -v -u admin -T provisioning-COMPANY-DATE_VERSION.install http://192.168.x.x/api/license/

This endpoint can only be used to install a new license, not update an existing license.

Updating Licenses from the Command Line

You can update the license file from the command line by sending a cURL request to the api/update endpoint, as depicted below:

$ curl -v -u admin -T provisioning-COMPANY-DATE_VERSION.install http://192.168.x.x/api/update/

This endpoint can only be used to update a license, not install a new license.
